Dear David Bernhart:
I would like to post this tribute (somewhat belated) to Sid Bulkin, a fine big band drummer who passed away on March 1, 2008 at the age of 83. Sid played with some of the great music artists of the big band era. Among them, Benny Goodman, Ralph Flanagan, Terry Gibbs, Don Elliot, Pat Longo and appeared on the Johnny Carson 'Tonight' show, Steve Allen's TV show as well as backing Sinatra, Damone, Harry Prime, Peggy King and Dinah Shore among many others. Sid gave me drum lessons way back in the early 1950s when I was a 'roadie' with the Flanagan band. He really was a gentle, fun-loving guy who took his music seriously. His daughters Kelly and Leslie and niece Carrie aka Mel, carry on the legend of this highly rated musician and I admire them for setting up a website and keeping the name of big band drummer Sid Bulkin up front and as real as life itself! Do yourself a favor and Google Sid Bulkin and enjoy time well spent of videos and stories of this beloved musician as we take a moment out to remember Sid on the occasion of the third anniversary of his passing.
